Norwayne Alumni reunion

30 August 2007 — The theme for Norwayne Alumni & Friends 35th high school reunion is “Not How Much, But How Well”.  Activities will begin with a social gathering at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Norwayne Alumni & Friends, Inc. Community Center, 106 E. Branch Street, Fremont.  Saturday, September 1, activities will include a parade, banquet and dance.  The 6th annual parade in Fremont will start at 10:00 a.m., at the M. L. King Park, Ballance Road, proceed down Main Street and end back at the park.  The banquet at 6:00 p.m. and dance at 9 p.m. will be held at the H.V. Brown Hall, Dillard Alumni Cultural Center, 801 Poplar Street, Goldsboro. 

The banquet speaker is Myra Juanita Sampson, a 1967 graduate of Norwayne School.  The Educator and Social Entrepreneur is the daughter of the late James and Geneva “Bet” Coley Sampson.  She is the founder and principal of CCA Academy in Chicago, Illinois.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Bennett College, Greensboro and her Master of Divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL.  She has completed her coursework in educational leadership as a doctoral student at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is completing her dissertation.  She is married and has one daughter.

The dance will feature DJ, Marvin Jackson.

Sunday morning worship service, 11 a.m., will be held at the Norwayne Alumni & Friends, Inc. Community Center, Fremont.  Minister Frances H. Ruffin will be the guest speaker.  The weekend activities will culminate with a gospel fest at St. James Disciples Church of Christ, 514 Memorial Church Rd, Fremont at 6 p.m.

Proceeds from the weekend activities will go into the scholarship fund and Community Center building fund.  Tickets are still available and may be purchased at the door for all activities according to Ethel N.
