Local municipalities will change their schedules in honor of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 3.

The Town of Pikeville will be closed on Monday. The town board meeting will be rescheduled for September 4 at 7 p.m. A public hearing will also be held during that meeting.

Ag demonstration Sept. 7

A demonstration of mowing and bailing of corn stover and drought damaged soybeans will be held at the NCDA Cherry Research Farm, 201 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro on Friday, September 7 from 10:00 until noon.

Utilization of crop residues will be imperative this year. At least 80 counties in North Carolina will be critically short of hay and winter forage this year due to the severe drought conditions affecting most of the state.

Topics covered will include sampling for nitrates, relative forage quality/protein supplementation, mowing effect on bale condition, storage considerations, net wrapping vs. twine, silage wrapping soybean haylage, and the dollar value of stover as feed.

Tent revival going on now

A Holy Ghost Tent Revival will be held at the corner of E. Nash and East Streets, across from Edwards Funeral Home, in Wilson through Saturday, September 1, and from Monday, September 3 through Saturday September 8. Services will start at 7:30 p.m., and are sponsored by Tabernacle/Temple of Jesus Chris of Wilson. Apostle Marvin Smith from West Palm Beach, Florida, will be overseeing, and Pastor Ida Hamilton of Wilson will be guest pastor. For more information, call 252-243-0443 or 243-3512.
