sheriff’s report16 August 2007 — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department reported the following incidents: Newton McCoy Overman, 46, of Mount Olive reported damage to a Department of Transportation work site on Governor Aycock Road in Fremont on Friday. He reported that someone cut cables and lines and took several items from the site. Items damaged included two battery cables and a rubber fuel line. The suspect also stole $50 worth of diesel fuel and two batteries. In addition, a fuel spill occurred, requiring a clean-up that cost the department $5,000. Edna Owens Baker, 67, of Lindell Road reported a larceny at her home on Friday. Mrs. Baker reported that $16,680 worth of jewelry was missing from the home. She also reports that the last time she knew the jewelry was there was in March. Damage to a field of beans was reported on Union Grove Church Road on Saturday. Matthew Earl Hooks, 52, of Fremont reported that someone drove through the field, causing $300 worth of damages to the beans and destroying two wooden posts. A chain was also missing from the fence. Donald Grantham, 57, of Nor-Am Road reported larceny of swine on Saturday. Mr Grantham told officers that two spotted pigs and one white pig had been stolen from a pen at his home. The pigs were valued at $375. Breaking and entering and larceny was reported at a general store on Highway 581. Gary Charles Clodfelter, 45, of Fremont reported that the store had been broken into, with damage to a rear glass door and window, as well as damage to a window on a vehicle outside. Six packs of cigarettes were also stolen.
