CBA’s outlook good

16 August 2007 — After seeing the Falcons perform during their scrimmage against Spring Creek Friday night, Aycock Coach Randy Pinkowski said his team amazed him.

Offensively, Coach Pink anticipated more mistakes than he saw from his boys on Friday, which he said blew him away. And furthermore, the mistakes he did see were mostly aggressive mistakes, rather than fumbles.

“With the way were tossing, I expected to see the ball on the ground a lot more, or somebody going the wrong way, things like that,” he said. “And they just didn’t do it. They were like clockwork out there.”

On the defensive side, Coach Pink said he was equally impressed.

“I don’t think we gave up more than five yards more than twice,” he said.

The boys also snagged three interceptions during Friday’s scrimmage, after only recording seven interceptions all last season.

“To have three in the scrimmage alone, that bodes well for the season,” he said.

But as a coach, he said he also has to push the team to keep working harder and keep improving.

“If we can do this good this early, I anticipating improving way beyond as the season goes,” he said.

In addition to the technical gold he saw on the field Friday, Coach Pink says he is happy to see the team is coming together as a cohesive unit.

“We have a bunch of different kids this year, and at the beginning they were a little cautious of each other,” he said. “But the last couple of days, they are giving me a lot of confidence and really coming together as a team.”

And in combination with how well the team is executing on the field, Coach Pink sees good things for the season ahead.

This Friday is an open week for the Falcons, who will start their regular season on the road at Clayton on August 24.
