Stafford, Spell wed Saturday in Goldsboro
9 August 2007 — Christy Dale Stafford and Ryan Christopher Spell were married at 7 p.m. on August 4, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro. Reverend Andrew Clark and Reverend Ryan Rasmussan officiated the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Curtis and Joan Stafford of Pikeville and the granddaughter of Mrs. Linda Brock and the late William Earl Brock of Pikeville, and Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stafford and the late Dewitt Stafford of Pikeville. She is a 2002 graduate of Charles B. Aycock and a 2006 graduate of Campbell University, and holds a degree in Elementary Education. She is employed as a teacher by Wayne County Public Schools. The groom is the son of Randy and Susan Spell of Atlanta, Georgia and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Resin Cass Spell and the late Ellen Spell of Georgia, and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Taylor of Georgia. He is a 2002 graduate of Charles B. Aycock and a 2006 graduate of Appalachian State, and holds a degree in Music Education. He is employed as a teacher by Wayne County Public Schools. Escorted by her father and given away by her parents, the bride wore a satin gown with a flared, trumpet-style skirt and short train, strapless scooped bodice, and a pink satin sash. Her headpiece was a single-layer fingertip veil embellished with scalloped edges and trimmed in white beads. She carried a clutch bouquet with pink hydrangeas, light pink roses, white lisianthus with pink tips, and tree ferns, wrapped in a satin ribbon, with pictures of her late grandfathers, and the family wedding Bible covered in fabric from her mother’s wedding gown. Lauren Hottel of Raleigh was her college sorority sister’s matron of honor. Kaitlyn Stafford of Pikeville was her sister’s maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Melinda Pearce of Raleigh, college sorority sister of the bride; Lydia Pratt of Virginia, college friend of the bride; and Cassie Spell of Georgia, sister of the groom. Randy Spell was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Kevin Coghill, friend of the couple; Tony Jones of Pikeville, uncle of the bride; Steven Jones of Pikeville, cousin of the bride; and Brock Strickland of Pikeville, cousin of the bride. Abigail Ingle of Goldsboro was the flower girl. John Avery Sasser of Pikeville was ring bearer. The wedding was directed by Brownie Doss of Goldsboro, assisted by Candy Whitley of Goldsboro and Lynda Stewart of Fremont. The reception was held at the church following the ceremony. After a wedding trip to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the couple will reside in Goldsboro. A rehearsal dinner was given by the groom’s parents and family at the Steak Barn in Goldsboro. A miscellaneous shower was given on June 2 by the bride’s relatives, Lynn Strickland, Debbie Jones, Pam Pennington, Mary Elizabeth Stafford, and Linda Brock. A kitchen shower was given on June 16 by Lauren Hottel in Raleigh. A miscellaneous shower was given on July 7 by the groom’s relatives, Stephanie Trotter and Susan Spell. A surprise shower was given by the groom’s co-workers on Texas Steakhouse. An “Around the Clock” shower was given on July 21 by the couple’s church, Missy Ingle, Debbie Sealey, Linda Meyer, Sue Woodyard, and Barbara Novicki, with help from church family friends. A lingerie party was given by Helen and Hannah Jernigan on July 26. A bridesmaid’s luncheon was given on August 3 by Brownie Doss, Candy Whitley, and Lynda Stewart, where the bride presented gifts to her wedding party and friends. A bachelorette party was given on July 28 by Lauren Hottel, Melinda Pearce, Vanessa Bailey, and Sarah Wallace. A bachelor party was held on July 28, by friends of the groom. A girls’ morning out was held on August 2 with family members.
