deaths & funerals2 August 2007 JAMES M. BAILEY James M. Bailey, 82, of Stantonsburg, died Saturday, July 28. Funeral services were held Sunday evening, July 29, at Wilson Memorial Service. Masonic grave rites were held Monday morning, July 30, at Stantonsburg Cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Marie Lane Edwards Bailey; stepdaughters, Rhonda Price of Wilson, Shelia McCullen of Saulston and Francine Winstead of Greenville; stepsons, Curtis Edwards of Stantonsburg and Travis Edwards of Wilson; seven stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Doris Bridgers Skinner of Stantonsburg. AGATHA H. JONES Agatha Hinson Jones, 79, of Goldsboro, died Friday, July 27 at Britthaven of Newport. Born in Wayne County on December 5, 1927, she was married to the late William Lloyd Jones. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Jones Hinson Davis, her stepfather, William Russell Davis, and her father, Ed Berry Hinson. Agatha was a member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from General Electric of Goldsboro. Funeral services were held Sunday evening, July 29, at Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church with the Rev. Mike Grady officiating. Interment was Monday afternoon, July 30, at Wayne Memorial Park. Mrs. Jones is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah De’Anne J. and Joseph Gibson of Newport; her grandchildren and grandchild-in-law, Bradford Leland and Deborah Gibson of Cary, and Sabra De’Anne Le May of Newport; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Austin, Cierra De’Anne and Kayla Brooke Le May; brother and sister-in-law, Billy Ray and Marie Hinson Goldsboro. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews-in-law, Sherry H. and Craig Myers of Wilson, Samone H. and Glenn Lancaster of Stantonsburg; three great-nephews and one great-niece; special cousins and cousin-in-law Anne Jones Gurley and Jesse Ray, and their daughter Katrina of Goldsboro. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Al Wesley “Bozo” Hinson. Memorials may be made to Wood’s Grove P.F.W.B. GLEN SUTTON SR. Glen Sutton Sr., 95, of Pikeville, died Saturday morning, July 28, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro. He was born in Wayne County on January 12, 1912 to the late Henry and Rancie Best Sutton. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, at noon from the White Oak Grove F.W.B. Church, 2261 Big Daddy’s Road, Pikeville, with the Elder George Wiggins presiding. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery, Goldsboro. A viewing will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro. A wake will be held with the family present to receive other family members and friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., Goldsboro, N.C. Survivors include two sons, Glen Sutton Jr. and wife, Regina, and Leon Sutton; one grandson; stepchildren; Lois Coley and husband, Irvin, Johnnie Brown and wife, Doretha, Shirley Bass, Barbara Miller and husband, Larry, and Eleanor Brown. PATRICIA EASON-BRANNON Funeral services for Patricia Eason-Brannon, 44, of Clayton, were held Wednesday afternoon at Wilson’s Mills Baptist Church. The Rev. Billie Lawson Jr. officiated. Burial followed in the family cemetery on Stewart Lane in Wilson’s Mills. Mrs. Eason-Brannon was the stepdaughter of the late Wilton Massengill. Surviving are her husband, Bobby Brannon; a stepson, Bobby Brannon Jr. of Clayton; her mother, Jo Ann Massengill of Smithfield; two brothers, John Eason and Joey Eason, both of Smithfield; a sister, Teresa “Sugar” Shipley of Brighton, Colorado; her father, James Ervin Eason Jr.; a stepbrother, Jay Massengill of Clayton; and three stepsisters, Susan Adams of Pikeville, Teresa Hinton of Selma, and Pat Warnock of Pleasant Grove; and eleven nieces and nephews. WILMA C. BOSWELL Wilma Ruth Creech Boswell, 86, formerly of Aycock Street in Fremont, died Wednesday, August 1 at Britthaven of Jacksonville. Mrs. Boswell was born in Johnston County on October 8, 1920, to the late William Thomas Creech and Sallie Catherine Pearce Creech. She is survived by four daughters, Nelda B. Futrell and her husband, Gerald, of Jacksonville; Barbara B. Godwin and her husband, Mike, of Currie, N.C.; Linda B. Sugg and her husband, Clayton, of LaGrange; and Mary B. Boswell and her husband, Cecil, of Ashland City, Tenn.; one sister, Sally Jollie and her husband, Archie Henry, of Forestville, Md.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boswell was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Thomas “A.T.” Boswell and one sister, Alice Peedin. Condolences may be posted at www.shackleford-howell.com. MARGARET B. GENTRY Margaret Burgess Gentry, 75, of Seven Springs, died Wednesday, August 1 at Wayne County Rest Villa in Fremont. Born on November 6, 1931 and a native of Dalton, Ga., she lived in Tennessee for many years before relocating to Wayne County in 1997. She attended Adamsville Church of God at Goldsboro. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 3 at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive. Pastor Wesley Jarman will officiate. Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Pineview Cemetery in Seven Springs. She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Alphin and husband, Michael, of Seven Springs and Linda Fay Ledford of Alabama; three sons, Gene Gentry of Minnesota, Billy Gentry and Roger Gentry, both of Tennessee; two brothers, Paul Burgess and Arvell Burgess, both of Dalton, Ga.; five sisters, Shirley Turner, Darlene Rayburn, Brenda Waters, Mary Helen Parris and Rose Matthew, all of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Fannie Burgess; a brother, Willard Burgess; and three sisters, Loretta Crowe, Geraldine Burgess and Ruby Burgess. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service on Friday night and at other times at the Alphin residence, 247-B Adams Road, Seven Springs.
