One dead in Stantonsburg home invasion

By Sarah A. Wise
NL Staff Writer

2 August 2007 — A reward has been offered for information on the men responsible for the shocking murder of a Stantonsburg restaurant owner.

Song Ni, 34, owner of Jin Jin Restaurant, was shot during a home invasion and robbery late Saturday night, and died as a result of his injury.

Around 11:00 Saturday night, two workers from the restaurant closed up the store and walked across the street to Ni’s home, where they also lived. Three masked men attacked the two and forced them inside the house.

The men also took $600 in cash from one of the workers.

Once inside, the men then forced the two into a room where Ni’s wife and two children, ages 5 and 2, were hiding. They searched the room, and then went into another room of the home, where they found Ni and shot him.

Ni was found after the intruders left the house.

The men then allegedly ran down Moyton Avenue to the Stantonsburg Community Building, where officers believe a car was waiting for them.

The intruders were described as three black men, but because of a difficulty with the language barrier, more precise descriptions have not yet been obtained.

The Town of Stantonsburg is offering a $5,000 reward for information on the culprits of the invasion and shooting, and the Wilson County Sheriff’s department is also offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the suspects.
