highway patrol accident report

2 August 2007 — The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported the following accidents in Wayne County:

Nancy Carolyn Ezzell, 20, of Goldsboro, was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Pikeville-Princeton Road near Nahunta Road on Sunday. Ms. Ezzell’s vehicle was traveling East on Pikeville-Princeton Road when it entered a curve at a high speed. The vehicle crossed left of center, ran off the road, struck a ditch, and began spinning out of control. The vehicle then overturned and came to a stop upside down in a ditch. Ms. Ezzell was cited for left of center and exceeding a safe speed. Her 1995 Mercury sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages.

Christopher Thomas Godwin, 22, of Pikeville struck a dog while traveling on Robert Peel Road on Friday. Mr. Godwin’s 2003 Mitsubishi sustained an estimated $500 in damages.

Billy Daniel Hines, Sr., 53, of Fremont and James Heyward Jeffreys, 16, of Fremont were involved in a collision on U.S. Highway 117 near Robert Peel Road on Friday. Both vehicles were traveling south on U.S. Highway 117 when Mr. Hines began to slow down to make a left turn. Mr. Jeffreys failed to reduce speed and struck the rear of Mr. Hines’ vehicle. Mr. Jeffreys was cited for failure to reduce speed, and his 2001 Jeep sustained an estimated $5,500 worth of damages. Mr. Hines’ 2007 Volvo sustained an estimated $1,200 worth of damages.

Alaska Ray Stanley, 58, of Pikeville was involved in an accident on Governor Aycock Road. His vehicle was traveling south when it ran off the road to the right and then crossed the centerline, overturning and coming to a stop in a field. Mr. Stanley was charged with driving while impaired and careless and reckless driving. His 1998 Ford sustained an estimated $8,000 worth of damages, and he was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
