Summer film fest at Wayne library

26 July 2007 — The Wayne County Public Library in Goldsboro is offering a summer film festival guaranteed to open your child’s window to the world with quality media that educates, inspires and entertains.

Geared for teens and tweens, from ages 10 and older, the film series will run every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. through August 14.

“Many of the films are independent, some made by kids or teens, and most are short or very short,” said Sue Geiger, Teen Program Coordinator. “So some nights we will be having a film festival viewing multiple films and other nights we will have a feature film.”

Films are provided by the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media Organization and showcase new and classic children’s films, television shows, and short movies from independent producers that exemplify quality media for children. Some of the films are written and produced by young people.

The Coalition for Quality Children’s Media is a national, nonprofit organization founded in 1991 whose mission is to teach children critical viewing skills and to increase the visibility and availability of quality children’s media.

“We are very excited about this opportunity to show films that our teens and tweens have mostly not seen, and that will be fun, funny, and inspiring,” Geiger said. “And, free refreshments will be served and a door prize will be given out each night.”
