Subscription rate increase next week

26 July 2007 — The Wayne-Wilson News Leader is increasing subscription rates effective August 1.

Local subscriptions (Johnston, Wayne and Wilson counties) will be increasing from $20 to $24 annually. Subscriptions in the rest of North Carolina will go to $36 from $26. Out of state subscriptions will increase from $31 to $48.

Said Publisher Barry Merrill, “We had planned a more modest increase when postal rates increased on July 15. After we saw the actual rates, we realized that we would have to increase rates more.”

This is the first subscription price increase in five years and the newspaper has absorbed several cost increases during that time. Some of the increase is due to catching up on some of those unrecovered cost increases.

Mr. Merrill also pointed out that the newspaper has made a number of improvements in the past five years, including adding pages and full color and black and white photos to the publication.

He noted that subscribers who are concerned about costs should look for special savings opportunities, which the paper will continue offering from time to time.
