deaths and funeralsMARY A. BAGLEY Mary Alice Bagley of Pikeville died Sunday, July 15 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at McIntyre Funeral Home.
CAROL CAVENAUGH Carol Leigh Bryan Cavenaugh, 64, of Goldsboro, died Friday, July 13 at home. A private service will be held. Mrs. Cavenaugh was born in Wayne County on July 8, 1943, to the late Albert Bryan and Azalee Ingram Bryan. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Sonja Cavenaugh of Dudley and Timothy and Nina Cavenaugh of Pikeville; one sister, Sylvia Bryan of Charlotte; and three grandchildren, Katelyn Michelle Cavenaugh, Keri Alyse Cavenaugh and Kelly Renee Cavenaugh. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cavenaugh was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Glenn Cavenaugh; and one sister, Linda Chandler. ROSE F. CHAMLEE Rose F. Chamlee, 92, of Hampstead, NC, died Sunday, July 15 at Davis Health Care Center in Wilmington. Rose was born October 23, 1914, in Greene County, daughter of the late Ben Wiggins and Elizabeth Gurganus Williams. She attended school in Eureka, and went to Louisburg College. Rose’s long career as a hostess began in the dining room of the Goldsboro Hotel in the 1930s, and took her throughout the East Coast. In 1942, while working in Charleston, she met her future husband, William Comer Chamlee, a golf club manager from Georgia. Rose retired from public life in 1975 and remained in Roswell, GA until 1980, at which time she moved back to North Carolina to be near her sisters. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Comer Chamlee of Roswell, GA; three sisters, Margaret Aycock of Fremont, Nancy Hill of Kinston, and Marilyn Wiggins of Marietta, GA; and one brother, Col. Phillip G. Fleetwood of Alexandria, VA. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Williams and husband, Sydney H. Williams, of Hampstead; four sisters, Evelyn Lamm of Wilson, Swanell McLawhorn of Kinston, Fanettie Whichard of Pikeville, and Reba Mitchell of Goldsboro; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. at Andrews Hampstead Chapel with Dr. Timothy Croft officiating. Interment will be in Georgia with a graveside service, at a later date. EDWARD HARE Edward Lee Hare, 80, of Stantonsburg, died Friday, July 13 at Wilson Medical Center. A native of Wayne County, he was born February 19, 1927, the son of the late Durand and Gertrude Combs Hare. Mr. Hare was retired from the Chrysler Corporation and was a member of the American Legion. He also served his country in the United States Navy and Army. The funeral was held 7 p.m. Monday, July 16 at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dallas Spence and Joe Strouse officiating. Interment was Tuesday morning at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Goldsboro. Surviving are his wife, Emma Sauls Hare; daughters, Barbara Hare of W.Va., Bonnie H. Carter of Jacksonville, Juanita Fields of Salem, Ala., Bessie Jo Hare of Phenix City, Ala., Shirley George of Columbus, Ga., Judy Simmons of Lee County, Ala., Tammy Jenkins of Williamston, S.C., Diane Kirkland of Columbus, Ga., Connie White of Sims, Barbara Waddell of Stantonsburg, Nancy Thompson of Zebulon, and Patricia Mattox of Winnsboro, S.C.; sons, Jerry Wayne Caulder of Phenix City, Ala., Scott Langston of Pikeville, Ken Gurganus and John Gurganus of Columbia, S.C.; sisters, Esther Hare of Goldsboro and Kathleen Oetken of Reno, Nev.; brother, Lloyd Hare of Conway, S.C.; 34 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. BRENDA G. PILKINGTON Brenda Grant Pilkington, 55, of Goldsboro, died Friday, July 13 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Brenda was born in Wayne County on November 24, 1951 to Myrtle Lynch Grant and the late Charles Brantley Grant. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dock Hobbs officiating. Burial was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. In addition to her mother, Brenda is survived by her husband, Jimmy Pilkington; her daughters, Katrina Jenkins of Virginia, Amy Ballance of Fremont, and Christy Pigg of Seven Springs; her brothers, Earl Grant of Fremont and Bobby Grant of LaGrange; and six grandchildren.
JOSEPH L. RAYNOR Joseph “Jody” Lynn Raynor, 35, of Goldsboro, died Friday, July 13 from injuries sustained in a work-related accident in Galveston, Texas. He was born in Duplin County on March 31, 1972 and was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Martin Armstrong officiating. Graveside services will be held Friday morning, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. Mr. Raynor is survived by his father and stepmother, Jimmy and Eloise Raynor of Beulaville; his mother and stepfather, Ruby “Shorty” and Roger Lewis of Goldsboro; three brothers, Anthony “Tony” Raynor of Durham, Jimmy Lee Raynor of Beulaville, and Jason Lewis of Goldsboro; and four sisters, Chanda Newsome of Eureka, Cindy Lewis of Goldsboro, Deanna Cundiff of Charlotte, and Renee McGee of Beulaville. Family members will greet friends tonight immediately following the funeral service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the homes of his parents. REV. JAMES R. ROWE The Rev. James Rudolph Rowe, 72, of Pikeville, died early Wednesday morning, July 18, at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County on June 6, 1935, he was the son of the late George and Leona Moore Rowe and husband of the late Irma Jean Barwick Rowe. The youngest of nine children, he was preceded in death by brothers, Edison, George Jr., Othel, Robert; sisters, Ruby, Myrtle, Annie and Jewel; and an infant son, George Oscar Rowe. A member of Rosewood Baptist Church, he was a founding member of the King’s Messengers Quartet and was active with the Neuse Baptist Association. He was a former member of the Nahunta Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed delivering Meals On Wheels for WAGES. His lifetime ministry was small churches and the youth. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Barry Stallings, the Rev. Larry Bostian and the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Pittman Rowe; his children, Thomas and Vivian Rowe of Dudley, Mary and Kenneth Gardner and Lynne and Tommy Herndon, all of Pikeville; grandchildren, Clay and Hy Gardner, Crystal and Berry Gray, Elizabeth Rowe, Reagan Herndon and Trent Herndon; one great-grandchild, Wyatt Gardner; stepchildren, Gary and Dawn Pittman, Roger and Gale Pittman, Sheila and Steve Brogden, Greg and Wendy Pittman, Denise and Allen Daniels, Donald and Donna Bass; 17 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. Family members will greet friends Thursday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Family Life Center of the Rosewood Baptist Church and at other times at the home. ANDRE D. WILDER Andre Delreece Wilder, 8, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, July 17 at his residence. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, July 20 at Philadelphia Community Church with the Rev. Roger L. Taylor Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Old Mill Cemetery. He is survived by his mother, Shenita Wilder-Dancy of the home; father, Zeno Mitchell of Goldsboro; sisters, Teresa Hopkins of Bailey, Eula Thomas of Waterford, Miss.; brothers, Darrius Wilder of the home, Alonza Mitchell of Pikeville, Kristin Wilder of the home, Zeno Mitchell Jr. of Florida; maternal grandparents, Larry and Brendia Wilder of Dudley; maternal great-grandmother, Irene Exum of Selma; maternal great-grandfather, John Mark Wilder of Fremont. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Milford and Dora Margaret Mitchell. Visitation will be today (Thursday) at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, 900 S. George St., from 4 to 6 p.m. The family will receive friends at 310 Rollingwood Drive in Dudley and will assemble there Friday in preparation for the funeral.
