Harris heads to D.C.

19 July 2007 — Cierra Harris, a student from Pikeville, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Miss Harris will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C. April 14-20, 2008 to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United States’ most prominent monuments and institutions.

From Capitol Hill to the Smithsonian Institution and from Colonial Williamsburg to the National Museum of American History, Miss Harris will examine the characteristics of American leadership during times of national challenge and prosperity. Forum delegates will also participate in small-group discussions and exercises to experience first-hand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus, and foster change.

Miss Harris was nominated and accepted for the honor based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential. She is the daughter of Shawn and Michelle Harris of Pikeville. She recently graduated from Northeast Elementary, and will attend Norwayne Middle in the fall.

The program is coordinated by People to People Student Leader Programs to fulfill the vision President Dwight D. Eisenhower had for fostering world citizenship when he founded People to People during his presidency in 1956.
