Local board races slow

19 July 2007 — As the deadline to file for municipal elections draws closer, local candidates seem to be taking it slow.

In Fremont, two candidates have filed for the mayor’s seat, which is up for election this year. Current mayor Devone Jones has filed to run for another term, and Amy V. Price has also filed to run for mayor.

Five of the town’s six current board members have filed for reelection. Leon Mooring, W.T. Smith, Harold Cuddington, Annie Lewis, and Leroy Ruffin have all filed for reelection. However, the seat for the District 1 still has no candidate.

In Pikeville, only one person has filed to run for office. Todd S. Anderson has filed for one of the three commissioner seats that are up for election this year.

Three seats are open on the Town Board in Eureka, but no one has filed to run.

In Wilson County, two commissioner slots and the mayor’s seat are on the ballot for Stantonsburg. Commissioner Billy Bardin has filed for reelection, and challengers Tommy Darden and Ken Horne have also filed.
