GRANT L. FORD
Grant Lester Ford, 87, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday, June 27 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Born June 8, 1920, he was the son of the late Maj. and Bertha Ford. His work history included chuffing for tobacco buyers’ companies, Ford Motor Company, W.P. Rose Company and Fedlon Yarn Company until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gladys Ford of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Brenda Ford of Killeen, Texas, Jerry and Myra Raynor of Goldsboro, Maj. Donnell and Sharon Ford of Greenville, Roderick and Shenille Ford of Goldsboro and Kendrick and Sonjia Ford of Charlotte; five daughters and one son-in-law, Vivine Thomas of Goldsboro, Wilma Hamilton of Goldsboro, the Rev. Helen and Mel Reid of Pikeville, Diane Sellers of Mount Olive and Celestine Coley of Goldsboro; two sisters, Doris Williams of Brooklyn, N.Y., Essie Ford of Goldsboro; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four nephews; a devoted niece, Carolyn Samuel of Brooklyn; one brother-in-law, Linwood Thomas; two devoted sisters-in-law, Geraldine King and Wilheminia Thomas; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning, July 3, at Bear Creek Baptist Headquarters, with the Rev. Helen Reid officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery.

MILTON J. BOYETTE, SR.
Milton J. Boyette Sr., 67, of Eureka, died Friday, June 29.
He was a former insulation installer for different companies in the area. Preceding him in death were his parents, Matthew and Edna Daughtry Boyette; a sister, Ila Mae Ferrell; and a brother, Willie Boyette.
The funeral was held Saturday at Wilson Memorial Service.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Hill Boyette; daughters and sons-in-law, Violet and Rickey Starling of Kenly and Teresa Carroll and Frank Pierce of Benson; and son and daughter-in-law, Milton J. and Vickie Boyette Jr. of Goldsboro; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Penny McFatter of Goldsboro and Emma Jean Adams of Chocowinity; and special helping friends, Belita Whitman, Debbie Viverette and James “Nub” Head.

I.G. HOOD
Ira Gilmer “I.G.” Hood, 84, died Wednesday, June 27 at his home.
I.G. was born in Wayne County on August 24, 1922 to the late Ira Hood and Sallibett Cox Hood. He was married to the late Wilma T. Hood. I.G. retired from Shaver Battery and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Golden “K” Kiwanis Club.
Graveside services were held Friday morning at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Homer Morris officiating.
I.G. is survived by his son, Michael Hood and wife, Elizabeth, of Richmond, Va.; his sister, Sally Yelverton of Eureka and her children, Marshall Yelverton and Randy Yelverton and many friends.

ELBERT R. BALLANCE
Elbert Ray Ballance, 73, of Fremont, died Saturday, June 30 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
The funeral was held Tuesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. The Rev. Barry Stallings officiated. Burial followed at the Ballance Family Cemetery.
Elbert was born in Wilson County on December 29, 1933, to the late James Howard and Betty Clyde Pittman Ballance. He was a member of the American Legion and a veteran of the United States Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Frances C. Ballance; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Deborah Ballance of Fremont; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Joe Carter of Pikeville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edgar and Lucille Ballance and Willard and Eleanor Ballance; three sisters, Ruby Buck, Rena Faircloth, both of Fremont, and Myrtle Braswell of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

KENNETH D. HART
Kenneth Dean Hart, 58, of Willow Spring, formerly of Snow Hill, died Friday, June 29 of lung cancer.
Born May 10, 1949, in Greene County to J.B. Hart Jr. and Bettie Arthur Mooring Hart, Kenneth was a member of Angier Fellowship P.F.W.B. Church for 33 years. He worked as a rural mail carrier for the Fuquay-Varina Post Office for the last 20 years.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at Angier Fellowship P.F.W.B. Church, with the Revs. Leon Hawley and Chris Hall officiating. Private committal services are scheduled at the family gravesite.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hawley Hart; children and children-in-law, Shannon Hart and Danny Burch of Willow Spring, and Jonathan C. and Natalie Hart, of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Alex Burch, Miranda Burch and Kirsten Burch of Willow Spring; mother, Bettie Arthur Mooring Hart of LaGrange; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay H. and Doug Quinn of Charlotte and their children and grandchild, Jean H. and Harold Harper of Snow Hill and their children and grandchild, Peggy H. and Dennis Chase of Snow Hill and their children, Sherry H. Arnette of Pikeville and her children, Terry H. and John Wilson of Goldsboro and their children, and Christy H. and Carl Hollingsworth of LaGrange and their child; brothers and sisters-in-law Ricky G. and Randy Hart of Snow Hill and their children, Michael R. and Chrystal Hart of Pikeville and their children and grandchildren, and Steve A. Hart of LaGrange; father- and mother-in-law, the Rev. Leon and Janice Hawley; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Shelton L. and Shirley Hawley of Angier and their children and grandchildren, Cindy H. and Ricky Jones of Newton Grove and their children and grandchild, and Jennifer H. and Lane Pollard of Willow Spring and their children.
He was preceded in death by his father, J. B. Hart Jr.

RUDOLPH S. TAYLOR
Rudolph Stephenson Taylor, 64, of Fremont, died Sunday, July 1 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
