Wayne Schools intervention program

Wayne County Public Schools (WCPS) will soon host its annual “Summer Focused Intervention” program. The program will be offered from July 9 through August 16.

“The ‘Summer Focused Intervention’ program offers intensive instruction in math and reading for students, grades 3-8, who did not pass the North Carolina End-of-Grade tests,” states Dr. Ruby Bell, WCPS Director of Middle Grade Education. “Classes will run Monday through Thursday each week, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will provided by Daniels Children’s Outreach.”

Brogden Middle
Schools Assigned: Brogden Middle, Brogden Primary, Grantham, Spring Creek Elementary, and Spring Creek High.
Norwayne Middle

Schools Assigned: Norwayne Middle, Northeast Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Fremont, Rosewood Elementary, and Rosewood Middle.

Postcards will soon be mailed home to remind parents of the dates and times of the program. The cards will also provide the location where the child is required to attend and bus transportation information. Parents who need more information can contact their child’s regular school.

At the end of the “Summer Focused Intervention” students will have the opportunity to retake the End-of-Grade tests.

“This program is a valuable tool to help strengthen students who have struggled in math and reading. It is our goal to not only help students perform better on End-of-Grade tests, but also help them become better equipped to handle more rigorous subject areas as they advance to higher grade levels,” adds Dr. Bell.
