Have you seen this musket?

28 June 2007 — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public in the investigation of a Breaking/Entering and Larceny of a residence located at 1178 Miller’s Chapel Road, Goldsboro that occurred sometime in the afternoon of June 19.

Max Best reported that his home was broken into during this time and he had two 1849 Springfield Muskets with bayonets attached, along with one 8mm Mauser Rifle, stolen. Damage to the residence made by the entry was approximately $900. The unique nature of the firearms makes their value difficult to determine. The photo shows a similar musket.

Anyone who might have information pertaining to the persons responsible for this incident or to the recovery of the items stolen are requested to contact the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office at 919-731-1481 or Wayne County Crimestoppers at 735-2255. Det/Sgt. Mike Reid and Deputy Larry Mitchell are investigating the incident.
