highway patrol accident report28 June 2007 — The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported the following accidents: Donnyhugh Matthew Sauls, 58, of Lucama was involved in a single vehicle accident on Davis Street in Eureka June 17. Mr. Sauls was traveling north when he entered a curve and his vehicle an off of the right side of the road. The vehicle then came back onto the road, crossing the center line, and ran off of the left side of the road and struck an embankment. The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest in a cornfield. Mr. Sauls’ 1989 Ford sustained an estimated $4,800 in damages, and he was cited for exceeding a safe speed and driving while impaired. Mr. Sauls was treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained during the accident. An unknown driver wrecked a 1995 Ford on Highway 222 in Fremont on June 14. The vehicle, which belongs to Nicholas Corbin Sanchez of Pikeville, apparently crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left. The vehicle struck a ditch and then went into a field where the driver abandoned it. The vehicle sustained an estimated $1,500 in damages. Rex Elliot Harris, 31, of Fremont and Akeem Armon Dodson, 19, of Goldsboro were involved in an accident on Main Street outside of Fremont. Mr. Harris was entering the roadway from a private driveway and Mr. Dodson was traveling east on the roadway. Mr. Harris pulled out in front of Mr. Dodson’s vehicle, causing the two to collide. Mr. Harris’ 2000 Chevrolet sustained an estimated $1,500 worth of damages, while Mr. Dodson’s 2002 Toyota sustained an estimated $5,000. Mr. Harris was cited for unsafe movement. Pedro Luis Oyola Otero, 19, of Mount Olive was involved in an accident on Highway 117 Alternate on June 10. Mr. Otero’s vehicle was traveling north when it crossed left of center, ran off the road to the left, and struck a ditch culvert. The vehicle then struck a wooden fence, continued through a yard, and struck the fence again, coming to a stop in a ditch. He was cited for careless and reckless driving, driving while impaired, and no operator’s license. Judyann Warrick Rhodes, 37, of Pikeville, and Wesley Rudolph Wooten, 50, of Pikeville were involved in an accident at the intersection of Old Kenly Road and Pikeville-Princeton Road. Mrs. Rhodes’ vehicle was traveling south on Old Kenly Road and Mr. Wooten’s vehicle was traveling east on Pikeville-Princeton Road. Mrs. Rhodes stopped for the stop sign, but failed to yield to Mr. Wooten’s vehicle and crossed the roadway. Mr. Wooten’s vehicle struck Mrs. Rhodes’ vehicle in the right passenger side. After impact, Mr. Wooten’s vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left. Mrs. Rhodes’ car ran off the road to the right and struck the stop sign. Her 1996 Ford sustained an estimated $3,800 worth of damages, while Mr. Wooten’s 2004 Chevrolet sustained an estimated $4,800. Mrs. Rhodes was cited for failure to yield. Summer Nicole Honeycutt, 16, of Princeton was involved in a single vehicle accident on June 6. She was traveling west on Nahunta Road when she ran off the right side of the road, came back onto the roadway and went left of center. She then overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. It ran off the right side of the roadway and continued through a ditch, striking a telephone box. Miss Honeycutt told officers she was trying to avoid something in the roadway. The telephone box sustained an estimated $500 worth of damages, and Miss Honeycutt’s 2001 Ford sustained an estimated $500 in damages.
