Progress made on local sewer rehab projectsBy Sarah A. Wise In Eureka, workers have completed almost 75 percent of the general construction work on the project. This week, the crew is beginning to relay pipes that had to be completely taken out. They are also working to finish up all other repairs so that slip lining of the pipes can be completed. Crews have already completed 76 percent of the lining, and are expected to continue working this week. The only holdup in the project is a water line on Main Street that lies too close to several manholes slated for replacement. It has been proposed that the town authorize a new water line to be put in so that the manholes can be replaced, but town officials have not yet authorized the request. The cost of the new water line is estimated at around $31,000. Work is also set to begin on the Baker Street pump station this week. Crews will bypass the current line so that customers will not lose service, and construction on a new pump station should begin later this month. Meanwhile, crews in Fremont are wrapping up point repairs and installing manholes. One point repair was still incomplete at Tuesdays’ meeting, but was set to be finished by the end of the day. Crews have installed 38 new manholes, and it is anticipated that manhole installation will be completed in the next 45 days. Asphalt crews will be moving into the area this week as well to begin patching holes from point repairs. Slip lining, which is the final stage of the project, has not yet begun. However, after resurveying several lines, 2500 feet of slip lining included in the original project has been eliminated because the lines did not need the work. Instead, service connections will be repaired or replaced. Overall, crews have completed around 40 percent of the work on the project. Fremont’s percentage is lower than Eureka, despite an earlier start, because the actual size of Eureka’s project is smaller in scope. |
