Farmers Day at Aycock Birthplace21 June 2007 — Ever wonder what life was like on an 1870s farmstead? Visit the Governor Charles B. Aycock Birthplace State Historic Site on Saturday, June 23 from 12:30-4:00 to find out. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. The Farmers Day program will feature costumed interpreters demonstrating 19 th century farm chores such as spinning, quilting, gardening, butter making, blacksmithing, and candle making. Visitors will also be able to enjoy learning about old timey toys, a trip in a horse-drawn wagon, and the tour of the one-room schoolhouse and historic farmhouse with detached kitchen. During this event, take a break from the heat. Come into the Ida H. Williams Auditorium and listen to traditional folk music performed on mountain dulcimers by the musical group Waterbound. Aycock Birthplace Historic Site is located in Fremont. It was the boyhood home of Charles B. Aycock, North Carolina’s governor from 1901-1905, who was known as the “Education Governor.” The Birthplace is administered by the Office of Archives and History in the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, a state agency dedicated to the promotion and protection of North Carolina’s arts, history, and culture.
